L4Re Quick Start Remote Workshop

L4Re Quick Start remote workshop 2026: sign up now!

Good news for developers and software engineers who couldn’t join our previous workshops “Getting Started with L4Re” because Dresden is just too far away: We have moved our popular L4Re introductory workshop online, opening it to participants from anywhere in the world!

With L4Re Quick Start we invite interested software engineers to learn how to use the microkernel-based L4Re Operating System Framework. Teams and companies worldwide that are working with or evaluating microkernel-based system architectures can use our introductory training as a convenient way to introduce their developers to the L4Re technology – without the travel hassle (and also, unfortunately, without the group dinner and the complimentary Dresden city tour).

The new remote workshop format consists of two compact training phases, each with two half-day lessons. In this two-step program you will get an introduction to L4Re and do your first steps, guided by one of our highly skilled Senior Software Engineers who have been deeply involved in L4Re development for decades.

We tailored our workshop “Quick Start L4Re” to help you get an easy start, familiarize yourself with this open-source software, and to give you hands-on experience:

  • Learn how the microkernel principle can meet your security needs
  • Understand how the architecture and security mechanisms of L4Re work
  • Configure, build, and install L4Re on different platforms
  • Get acquainted with the most important tools, services, and libraries in the L4Re ecosystem
  • Learn how to use virtualization in L4Re
  • Start to contribute to the L4Re community – and launch your own project in the end!

Our workshop is perfect to get a first insight into the open-source L4Re technology. You don’t need to be an experienced software engineer, but for a good learning experience, you should have a basic understanding of how software and operating systems work.

“Quick Start L4Re” provides a mix of interactive, lecture-style sessions and hands-on practical exercises, where you can apply your new knowledge. Over the course of two weeks, you will learn to work independently with L4Re, even if you had little to no prior knowledge about microkernel architecture.

The learning environment is fully prepared by us, runs on QEMU and is provided via VPN. You don’t need to worry about the setup, just focus on learning and experimenting. All you need is your laptop.

Register now and secure one of the last remaining seats for our remote workshop, starting 14 April 2026!
