The long-standing IT project fair OUTPUT.DD is celebrating a milestone this year: On June 25, 2026, the Faculty of Computer Science at TU Dresden opens its doors for the 20th time to showcase current research, student projects, and local tech companies! For Kernkonzept, this event marks a second milestone: exactly 10 years ago in 2016, we joined the exhibition for the very first time.
Our roots at the faculty of computer science
Kernkonzept was founded in 2012 as a direct spin-off from TU Dresden – by students and researchers who worked here. Since then, we have maintained a steady and productive relationship with the Faculty of Computer Science. Many of our software engineers studied here before joining our team. These academic and professional ties are still strong and growing – that’s why we are happy to return to the familiar premises of the Andreas-Pfitzmann-Bau for our tenth exhibition appearance.
As operating system specialists, we know that a secure foundation is essential. Since our foundation, we have been developing and maintaining the open-source L4Re Operating System Framework. This high-security, microkernel-based operating system and hypervisor platform secures critical infrastructure worldwide and is deployed in safety-critical markets such as automotive, embedded systems, and mission-critical applications.
Experience cybersecurity first-hand at our booth
Are you interested in learning how to minimize an application’s attack surface through modularization and component isolation? We are happy to show it to you at our booth in the lecture hall:
- the L4Re Jenga tower: Our giant Jenga stack gives you a hands-on example how the L4Re Microkernel provides the structural foundation to make an operating system virtually uncrashable.
-
L4Re experts: Our highly experienced software engineers bring all their knowledge with them – ask them all you want to know about how our platform runs in practice, strictly isolating virtual machines from one another to ensure security.
Our double anniversary giveaway: 3 pre-configured Raspberry Pi 4B with L4Re
To mark 20 years of OUTPUT.DD and our own 10-year participation milestone, we are hosting a technical raffle this year to emphasize our ongoing connection to the faculty. We are giving away 3 Raspberry Pi 4B (with Cortex A72 Quad Core) to booth visitors!
To give you a head start, these mini-computers come pre-configured with a ready-to-run L4Re OS image and several virtual machines. This allows you to gain immediate, practical experience with L4Re—for example, by setting up a secure, on-device firewall using OpenWRT running isolated inside one of the VMs. It is an ideal setup for aspiring operating system engineers looking to explore microkernel technology.
How can you win?
Winning a Raspberry Pi 4B with L4Re setup is easy – just stop by our booth in the main hall of the Andreas-Pfitzmann-Bau and enter the lottery!
We are also happy to discuss career opportunities, internships, thesis topics, or simply explore our live demos. Come find out how we develop next-generation cybersecurity software right here in Dresden. We look forward to meeting you!
